Hi, I’m Dawn Thomas

My health Journey...

I was unfortunate as a baby to come down with spinal meningitis and I was in intensive care for 30 days on hectic antibiotics. I was lucky that when I was released I had only lost 70% of my hearing in one ear, and not my life. I was just under the age of 2 when this happened. Little did my parents know that this would lead to so many digestive problems and other issues as I got older.

Growing up on a farm we had a garden with fresh vegetables, fresh milk from our dairy, and fresh local meat most of the time. However, as I got older I developed a love for breads, cereals, pasta, sweets, and other processed foods. The usual Standard American diet. As a teenager I remember telling my mom that I couldn’t drink water because it would make me too bloated! Crazy that I would blame the water but I didn’t know anything at that point. So as a teenage girl, wanting to be skinny at all costs, I turned to either not eating or eating only nonfat packaged foods, diet sodas and the rest of it. I would do any diet I could find to try and lose weight and feel good.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at the age of 14. I was fighting a daily battle with IBS, joint aches and pains, as well as mood disorders. I had a massive lack of motivation and energy to do anything. It took me getting married, having 2 kids, and moving across the world to finally figure out that I needed to fix it once and for all. This led me to study Nutrition.

I researched a few schools and found the Nutritional Therapy Association out of Portland, Oregon. I signed up and never looked back. A few years later I went further and studied with the Restorative Wellness Solutions to dig deep into digestive health. I completed the Level 1 program with Digestive health and I have to say it is the best thing I have done to date for my own personal health. I implemented the changes I needed in my life and here I am today truly feeling amazing.

I want my kids, my friends and family members to know that we can prevent a lot of problems by nourishing our bodies. We need real food. We need movement. We need self care. Yes there are some genetic predispositions that we always need to consider. But that is all the more reason to respect what we are eating and how we are living today in the present.

We all know that the abundance of processed and packaged foods in our shops today is a huge contributor to the unwell population. There are too many of us walking around not feeling our best. It is affecting our whole well being and contributing to infertility, hormonal imbalances, mood disorders, and so much more.

I was one of those unwell people for most of my life, up until I had enough and decided to take control while I still could. I wanted to be in the present moment feeling amazing for my husband and my children. I didn’t want to be lacking in energy anymore. I didn’t want to be the snappy spouse and mother. When we don’t feel good we take it out on those we love. We snap at them when we don’t mean to. We don’t live in the moment and love in the moment. We reach for energy drinks and stimulants. We look for drugs to cover up our pain. I had enough and decided to fix it once and for all. I promise you it is so much better once you do this!

For the first time ever in my life I can honestly say I feel amazing. I have energy and mental clarity that I have never had before. I have motivation to conquer whatever may come my way. I have self respect and confidence in myself. The best part is that it isn’t thanks to any crazy supplement or quick fix. It is just simply making a switch from processed foods to real foods, optimizing my digestion, finding exercise you enjoy and finding self respect. This naturally comes when you are eating better. I wish I would have figured this out years ago. I am happy though, that I have figured it out now before it was too late and I don’t want to take another moment for granted.

I have realized that some things just aren’t worth it. People always ask me if I feel like I’m missing out by not indulging in a sweet treat or some take out that I usually would have loved. I can honestly say that I am not missing out one single bit. I struggled initially, but once you realize how bad you will feel immediately after, it doesn’t seem worth it. I have found real food replacements for all my previous loves and guess what, they are truly way better than the fake version. I don’t have to worry about any negative effects that will linger for days after. I love waking up every morning with a smile on my face and an energy to tackle the day ahead.

If you want to finally take control of your life and your health then give me a shout. I would love to chat with you and help you through your transition.

I love delicious food and the simple things in life. I am a mother of two beautiful children, dog mother to two lovely mini schnauzers, and a wife to my amazing, supportive, loving husband.

I believe that simplicity is key in living a nourished, fulfilling, and happy life. I think we all put too much pressure on ourselves these days trying to be superheroes for the people we love and surround ourselves with. That amazing person on instagram or youtube seems to have exactly what we need and want so we go after it. Why not embrace our individuality and let our light shine? Who knows who we might inspire?

I know for sure that as a mother I need to be the ultimate example to my children. When it comes to health, self love, self care, and self respect, leading by example is the only way. These days, we are surrounded by disease and illness everywhere we look. There are more and more autoimmune conditions being recognized each day. This is due to the Standard American Diet full of processed foods that has been misleading us for decades.
